Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer-Review and GIVEAWAY!

I finished the much-anticipated third book in the Twilight series several days ago. I have been debating whether or not to review it here on Deliciously Clean Reads. Here's the trouble. It doesn't quite qualify for Clean Reads because it says da** and he** more than a few times. AND although there is no sex in the book, it does get awfully steamy. However, since the first two books have been reviewed here, I have decided to discuss this one, too. Besides, I ended up with an extra copy... Okay, so there's the disclaimer, now to the review.

Eclipse is the third novel by Stephenie Meyer. (My review of Twilight is here, and my sister's review of New Moon is here.) I enjoyed Eclipse more than New Moon but not as much as Twilight. Actually, if I hadn't been hung up on my disappointment that the book wasn't quite Clean Read material, I would have been able to say I truly loved Eclipse.
I enjoyed the dynamics between Edward and Bella and Jacob and Bella, and Edward and Jacob, for that matter. Jacob, knowing that Bella plans to join the vampires, makes desperate move after desperate move to win Bella's love. He forces her to see that she does actually love him, too. So, the love triangle is fleshed out.
For the first time, we get to know the stories behind Edward's "siblings", Rosalie and Jasper. Edward's family feels more real than ever before.

Before you start thinking this installment in the series is just about feelings, let me tell you this, I think there is more action in this book than the previous two. However, in an effort not to have spoilers here, I won't go into details.
I know some of my fellow bloggers have been less than enthusiastic about Eclipse, but I'm going to stick behind this series. I still love it and will absolutely be buying the fourth the moment it is released.
Review by me, Emily.

Oh, by the way, I happen to have TWO copies of this book. Do you want one? If you do, leave a comment on this post by Monday, August 20, 2007. Tell me what you think of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. One commenter will be drawn from a hat and be the owner of a brand-spanking new copy of Eclipse. Good luck!

Well, I would love to win a copy even though I haven't read the series yet. It is going on my Christmas book wish list - I've already decided that. :)

Thank you for creating this blog. My mom was in your group at the BYU book writing conference. She told me about your blog and I thought you might be interested in a project I'm working on. You can learn about it at bringabook.blogspot.com

I am creating a website dedicated to book clubs. Users will be able to create book clubs, invite friends and family to join the club then manage book readings and discussion and events through the site. I have the beginnings of the site up and running and we will be working on adding the book club and book review functionality soon.

I've only read the first one, which I didn't care for a lot, but I've heard the next two are much better so I'd love to keep reading! :)

I'd love a copy! I'm a high school librarian, and I can't keep books from this series on my shelves--not that that's a bad thing, you understand...Even if I didn't enjoy the series myself (which I do--very much!) I would love just because it gets so many of my students reading and participating in spontaneous book discussions and book talks.

Anyway, I would put the copy in my library. :-)

Can I say how much I loved Twilight and New Moon? Enough to buy them both for my house and order them for my library. Unfortunately, the library copies were stolen the last week of school so I have had to reorder them. I'd love to have my own copy of Eclipse (the copy for my library is on back order). My email is paige_ysteboe@abss.k12.nc.us

I am not entering the contest. I have read and reviewed it already :) But I did want to talk about it. I am still a fan. I know some bloggers were very unenthused or unimpressed. But Meyer still kept me turning the pages. My review is spoiler free as well if anyone is interested:

I already have a copy of the book, so I don't need another one, but I wanted to comment on Eclipse as a "clean read." I appreciated the fact that Meyer dealt with the sex issue openly, and I think she did it well. I like that Edward stands up for marriage - in a very believable way. I noticed you reviewed A Dark and Terrible Beauty, and I thought that one was much worse than this. The characters discussed sex in a much more disturbing way than in Eclipse - it was worse than a few damns and hells here and there. Anyway, you can read my reviews of Eclipse and A Great and Terrible Beauty at http://www.blogginboutbooks.blogspot.com

I know there have been mixed feelings about Eclipse (mainly disliked by the adult readers who found Bella to be dependent and immature), but I still want to continue the story. I found myself pleasantly surprised reading Twilight because I found so many similarities between Bella and me. In New Moon, Bella kinda strayed from Bella-ism, but I'm still excited to find out how she'll turn out in Eclipse, now that Edward is back! (not to mention Rosalie and especially Jasper's stories!)
Thanks for the opportunity to win this book! Fingers crossed... :)

Eclipse is an astonishing book and it follows agreeably with the previous two in the series (although nothing can quite compare to the captivating and enthralling essence of Twilight). I think it followed consistently with the previous two books in the sense that she stayed true to the characters personalities. That being said, the story line in Eclipse was inevitable. That isn’t to say I am in high spirits about everything that took place in book three, but things happen sometimes regardless of your opinions on the issue. How ofter does life actually follow a road of complete regularity?

I loved this book, and she's coming out with a new one this fall..Breaking Dawn is what it's called. I am really happy about you putting these series on the blog, because I wasn't sure if they were appropriate. I love them!

I love all of these books! They are spectacular. When I finish one, I don't quite know what to do with myself until the next one comes out.

This web site is great and I totally LOVE Eclipse, New Moon, and Twilight! I can hardly wait for Breaking Dawn to come out!

Hey! I would love it if you would leave a comment and tell me what you favorite of the series was and then your second favorite then your least favorite. Was there one you didn't like? Why? I want to see how my opinions compare to others, so please comment! Thanks!

Twilight was absolutely my favorite, then Eclipse, then New Moon. I'm definitely on the Edward team so I didn't like not having him around in New Moon.

I really liked reading Eclipse...much more exciting than New Moon. I've been cheering on Jacob to win Bella but then I know that Bella will choose Edward in the end. Still, it doesn't hurt to cheer on him a little! :)

Yes, I enjoyed reading Rosalie's story too. It's nice to get to know Edward's family a little bit better. They are way too mysterious.

Here is my review.
