My favorite books as a child were 'The Phantom TollBooth' (I must have worn the words right off the pages!) and 'Black Beauty'.
One of my very favorites is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett :)
Ah, F. H. Burnett. My favorite. I don't know how many times I've read "A Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden" in the last 23 years, but they both still give me a thrill. I recommend them often but a lot of young readers today aren't interested in period pieces. It's a shame - they are both so magical. One of my favorite chapters of all time is "The Magic" from "A Little Princess."
